Best Questions To Ask In An Interview

At some point in an interview you will be asked if you have any questions. This is a critical time, and
your reply to this question will often be a big factor in your chances at landing the job. So when that
time comes up, what questions should you ask, and how do you show interest in the company? Here
is a list of important questions to consider so study up and find the right ones for the company you are
interviewing with.

•What do you see ahead for your company over the next five to ten years?
This question does a great deal of showing that you plan to stay with the company for the long
haul and you care about where it is going. You are taking interest in the future of the company
before you are even hired on. While they will ask you a similar question in the interview, they will
often be surprised by your interest and it will put you on the top of the pile quickly.

•Where have previous employees in this position moved within the company?
This is another great question that implies more than it says. You are asking where you could
possibly move within the company and asking in a way that implies that you expect very little
turnover in the job. That also shows the interviewer that you are interested in working hard once
you are hired and moving into a higher position as soon as possible.

•What have been the department’s strengths over the last few years? What about their
successes?
This question will put you in the position in your interviewer’s eyes. You are asking a question that
leads them to think that you are already going to start making plans to continue your department’s
growth. Dodge asking questions about their failures as a company would likely be turned off by
the question and would not give the answer anyways. Make sure you are focusing on the positive
in your questioning.

•Where is the last person that held this position now?
Sometimes this question will get no answer at all, and other times you will get a great deal of
insight into where this job leads you within the company. Either way, the interviewer will see that
you are interested in your mobility in the company and if mistakes were made that led to the
opening, how you can stay away from those.

•What are the next steps in the interview process?
This question should be your last question before shaking hands and thanking your interviewer
for their time. You are essentially putting yourself in the position or at least in the top of the stack
for it and giving an heir of humble confidence that you are prepared and curious about the next
step. This also shows that you are anxious and ready to get started and should leave a great
impression for the final piece of an interview. Be sure to ask additional questions in response
to this one and all of the others if they are appropriate based on the answers and stay engaged
through the whole interview. You want to be remembered, so make sure you stand out.
